On November 30, during the 10th lunar day, Kyabje Ga Lhakhang Rinpoche will bestow the Sitātapatrā (White Umbrella Goddess, Dugkar) empowerment from the Chokgyur Lingpa terma.
Sitatapatra (Sanskrit: Sitātapatrā, “White Umbrella”) is a powerful goddess in the Buddhist pantheon of Vajrayāna. She is the wrathful female aspect of the Buddha of Compassion, Avalokiteśvara, manifested from the ushnisha (crown protuberance) of Buddha Śākyamuni as a symbol of supreme accomplishment and protection of the Dharma. She is also one of the main emanations of White Tārā – the 19th of the 21 Tārās, known as the Invincible and Triumphant Tārā.
In all traditions of Tibetan Buddhism, she is revered for her ability to provide protection from all kinds of misfortunes and obstacles and to fulfill wishes. Her practice and mantra guard against harmful forces, the “evil eye”, negative influence of astrological factors, premature death, and even nightmares. Above all, the White Umbrella tramples upon the enemies of spiritual accomplishment – greed, hatred, jealousy, and other mental obscurations that hinder the achievement of enlightenment.
