On Sunday, June 29, at the request of the Vietnamese Sangha, Ga Lhakhang Rinpoche will give instructions on the practice of offering Sur.
Sur Offering is an incense offering ritual made from an array of pure substances like “the three whites and three sweets,” sometimes supplemented with precious ingredients. The offerings are presented through fire, and the fragrant smoke rises as spiritual sustenance, offered to Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Dharma Protectors, noble beings, and sentient beings in the six realms – especially the hungry ghosts (pretas) – helping them to be satiated, comforted, purify their negative karma, and have the opportunity to be reborn in peaceful realms.
During the session, Ga Lhakhang Rinpoche will give transmission of the practice text, which includes extensive offerings not only to lower realm beings, but also to the Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, Dharma Protectors, local deities, and the practitioner’s karmic creditors, which will help resolve obstacles, increase blessings, and ward off dangers in daily life and on the spiritual path.
